SOLD - 1988 OAK/LA Raiders "Dream Backfield" Combo

$40.00

Marcus Allen (#328) - SGC 8 #0568559: Near Mint-Mint

Bo Jackson (#327) - SGC 8 #6938044 Near Mint-Mint

Two beautiful cards and the ultimate gift for your closest Raiders fan! PRICE INCLUDES SHIPPING.

When Bo Jackson joined the Los Angeles Raiders in 1987, Marcus Allen, who was already a prominent player on the team, experienced a change in his role and playing time. The arrival of Jackson, who was an extraordinary athlete, caused quite the intrigue with how the coaching staff ran the backfield. There was speculation and some concern about how the two players would coexist and share playing time.

Prior to Jackson's arrival, Marcus Allen had established himself as one of the premier running backs in the NFL. He had been with the Raiders since 1982 and had already achieved significant success, including being named the Super Bowl XVIII MVP in 1984. Allen was known for his agility, vision, and ability to contribute in both the running and passing game. However, the Raiders coaching staff made adjustments to utilize both Allen and Jackson effectively. They often used a dual running back formation, deploying both players on the field simultaneously to create a potent offensive threat. While the presence of Bo Jackson did reduce Marcus Allen's workload and touches to some extent, Allen still remained a vital contributor to the team. In 1987, Allen rushed for 1,208 yards and 11 touchdowns, showcasing his continued excellence on the field. In 1988, he had another outstanding season, recording 1,168 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

Overall, the addition of Bo Jackson brought a change in dynamics to the Raiders' backfield, but Marcus Allen's talent and experience ensured that he remained a valuable asset to the team as a veteran leader, a potent backfield mate and proficient pass-catcher, and devastating blocker when called upon.
