During the 1984 Summer Olympics, Mark McGwire was a member of the U.S.A. baseball team. He played first base and showcased his power hitting during the tournament. The United States won the silver medal in baseball that year, losing to Japan in the gold medal game. Prior to his Olympic appearance, McGwire played college baseball at the University of Southern California.
