A near-PERFECT ROOKIE CARD of one of the greatest to play the game!

Cal Ripken Jr. had an exceptional rookie season in 1982. Heburst onto the scene with the Baltimore Orioles and made an immediate impact. Ripken was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 1982, receiving all 28 first-place votes. He became the first Oriole to win the award since Curt Blefary in 1965. He also started his record-setting streak of consecutive games played on May 30, 1982, by taking the field in the Orioles' lineup. This streak would go on to become one of the most iconic and enduring records in baseball history. Over the span of that first season, Ripken displayed his offensive prowess. He batted .264 with 28 home runs, 93 RBIs, and a .716 OPS. He also scored 82 runs and stole 7 bases. His power and run production were impressive for a rookie, and he quickly established himself as a force in the Orioles' lineup. He also showcased his exceptional defensive skills at shortstop throughout his rookie season. He displayed excellent range, sure hands, and a strong arm, making difficult plays look routine. His defensive contributions earned him the first of his 16 career Gold Glove Awards. In recognition of his outstanding rookie performance, Ripken was selected to his first All-Star Game in 1982. He made an immediate impact in the Midsummer Classic by hitting a home run in his first at-bat, becoming the first rookie to do so. All told, his rookie season laid the foundation for his legendary career that would end with enshrinement into the Hall of Fame.
